Without a smidgen of doubt, there is much more to Detroit history than meets the eye... well, more than just being Motor City, more than just being your average manufacturing town that turned into a large city with a large population. Since its founding back in the 20s, the
Detroit Historical society has been working hard to bring together things and artifacts that reminds us of just how far that Detroit has come as a community. The mission of the
Detroit Historical Museum is to bring together stuff from previous generations, put them together with the ones from the current generation and share them with the future Detroit folks. Only by looking at the changes can we learn and completely understand how the events and things that took place a long time ago, helped to shape the city of Detroit.
The
Detroit Historical Museum is strategically located in a sense that it is close to one of the most important Detroit landmarks there is, the venue of Auto Show. Most foreign tourists would book their trip to the auto show and then make a stop at the Historical Museum for the next couple of hours. Let's just say that guests are often surprised with the depth and variety of stuff on exhibit at the museum. They are also sometimes truly impressed with stuff like the 'Streets of Old Detroit', 'Sports Collection' and also the Kid Rock exhibits. These are stuff that you don't usually hear people telling you about because in as far as other people from other cities or other countries in the world, Detroit is Motor City. Therefore, a short visit to the Historical Museum can be a huge eye-opener.
Thankfully, people don't often have to worry about parking when visiting this distinctive Detroit attraction because even if you are visiting the place during peak season, there is ample parking spots for everyone. A couple of blocks down, there are more parking spots for visitors. The location is nice, pretty and is in one of the safest places in the city.
Through one simple visit, it became a memorable journey whereby one learns about how the city progressed for hundreds and hundreds of years and be a part of that journey, even for that hour and a half, it was an uplifting experience to and awesome because you do not see these kind of things in our history books. And the best part about this deal is, of course, that admission is free.
